The Challenge Course and Alpine Tower Program is a recreation teambuilding program used to promote, facilitate, enhance and support the development of functional group relationships.

All groups must call (352) 466-4112 to request a challenge course reservation.




Reservation Policies for University Groups who consist of (Activity and Service Fee Paying) UF Students:


  1. 1. Reservations must be made no later than three weeks (21 days) before the day of the challenge course.
  2. 2. Groups must consist primarily of students (80%) in order to reserve weekend days. Weekend Courses are free for students groups with 12-36 participants.
  3. 3. Challenge Course reservations can be made, depending on staff availability on weekdays. Please contact the Coordinator of Outdoor Parks and Recreation for price.
  4. 4. Student groups are limited to a minimum of 12 participants and a maximum of 36 participants for free on weekends. A charge will be assessed for student groups larger than 36 participants.  Cancellation policies in #7 and #9 below will apply for the first 36 participants. Charges collected for groups with more participants will not be refunded.
  5. 5. Upon Lake Wauburg staff verification of a Challenge Course date the group leader is required to meet at Lake Wauburg for a pre-course meeting at an arranged date and time at least two weeks (14 days) prior to the scheduled course.  One week (7 days) prior to the scheduled event, the group leader MUST submit a confirmed final list of participants, including full names and Gator-1 ID numbers, in person or by fax (352) 466-0799.  For those who are guests and do not have a Gator-1 ID number, they must submit their Driverâ??s License number.  Failure to do this will result in an automatic cancellation.
  6. 6. Cancellations must be in writing and received 2 weeks (14 days) prior to the scheduled event.  Failure to do so will result in a charge of $5 per person.
  7. 7. A Challenge Course reservation form must be on file and signed for confirmation.
  8. 8. Groups are required to have 80% of the final listed participants show and participate in the scheduled challenge course. Failure to do this will result in an automatic cancellation and a charge of $5 for every person on the final list of participants.  Scheduled challenge course will also be cancelled and a charge of $5 will be levied for every person on the final list of participants if the number of participants is below 12.
  9. 9. Fraternities and sororities must have a solicitation/special events form with appropriate signatures.

Reservation Polices for University Groups who are faculty/staff or affiliated with UF:

  1. Reservations must be made three weeks before the day of the challenge course.
  2. Upon Lake Wauburg staff confirmation of a Challenge Course date the group leader is required to meet with the coordinator for a pre-course meeting at an arranged date and time two weeks prior to the scheduled course. 
  3. All group members must be affiliated with UF.  Group members must present their UF Gator 1 ID Card.
  4. Reservations must be made with the Coordinator of Outdoor Parks and Recreation 30 days before the date of the challenge course.
  5. Challenge Course reservations can only be made for Tuesday through Friday.
  6. Time of program offered will depend on the time of year and staff availability.
  7. A $100.00 cancellation/service fee will be charged to the group leader, if the group cancels less than one week (7 days) prior to the schedule challenge course or fails to show up with the minimum number of participants.

Reservation Policies for Groups Outside of UF or not affiliated with UF:

  1. Groups outside of UF and not affiliated with UF may only arrange access for Challenge Course Programs.  Other facilities may be used in conjunction with the challenge course for a fee and if available.
  2. Reservations must be made, at a fee, with the Coordinator of Outdoor Parks and Recreation 30 days before the date of the challenge course.
  3. Upon Lake Wauburg staff confirmation of a Challenge Course date the group leader is required to meet with the coordinator for a pre-course meeting at an arranged date and time two weeks prior to the scheduled course. 
  4. Challenge Courses reservations can only be made for Tuesday through Friday.
  5. Time of program offered will depend on the time of year and staff availability.
  6. A $200.00 cancellation/ service fee will be charged to the group leader, if the group cancels one week (7 days) prior to the schedule program, fails to show up with the minimum number of participants.

Additional Challenge Course Policies for All Groups

  1. All the members of the group must complete a waiver Participant Acknowledgement of Risk, Release and Agreement form in order to participate in the program.
  2. Staff should be notified of any participants with medical limitations one week (7 days) prior to the challenge course date.
  3. Members of the group cannot use personal climbing equipment, and must use only the gear provided by Lake Wauburg.  Participants are allowed to wear personal climbing shoes.
  4. Participants must wear appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes in order to enhance their experience and insure safety. Athletic shoes and comfortable, loose fitting clothes that you would wear outdoors are recommended. Participants who show with inappropriate clothing or footwear will not be allowed to participate.
  5. Hazardous jewelry, watches, objects in pockets, and hanging clothing items must be removed and it is recommended that valuables be left in a secure place (home or car).
  6. Food and drinks must be kept away from the climbing area and all other activity areas.
  7. Participants must remove objects in the mouth (gum, candy, etc.) when climbing.
  8. Climbing on any of the equipment is permitted only with direction from the supervising staff.
  9. Participants should not step on the climbing ropes, hang on guy wires, swing on ropes, or do any other activities that are not supervised by staff.
  10. Courtesy to others and appropriate language are expected.
  11. Any safety hazards witnessed by group members should be reported immediately to the staff.
  12. Participants are encouraged to drink water or other hydrating fluids before, during and after the activity.
  13. Patrons must abide by Lake Wauburg's other park usage policies.
  14. We require and expect responsible behavior by all participants.
  15. One warning will be issued per participant for rules infraction; second infraction will result in loss of privileges.

Weather Related Policies

  1. Challenge Course will not be open for use while it is raining, thundering and lightning.
  2. Challenge Staff will determine if it is safe to start and continue climbing in the case of inclement weather.
