Personal Training Hiring Criteria
Are you interested in becoming a Personal Trainer?
All of our personal trainers must be certified by one of the following organizations: National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), or ACE Fitness.
Other certifications may be accepted upon review.

Interview/Hiring Process:
If you are not certified and have never been employed as a personal trainer, you must attend and pass the personal trainer prep class. After completion of the PT course, applicants must obtain a nationally recognized certification as mentioned above. Information about the class can be found in the links section to the left on the main personal training page.
If you are certified and have worked as a personal trainer for at least one year, you must complete the hiring application found in the "about us" section at the top of the page. Be sure to list personal training as your first job preference. Include your resume if available. Applications and Resumes should be directed to Tara Kalajian, Graduate Assistant for Personal Training.
If you have completed the above steps you will be contacted for an interview. The interview process consists of both a written and practical portion. Personal Trainer applicants should be prepared to interview on the following criteria:
1. Functional Anatomy/kinetic chain/conventional lifts
2. Flexibility (static vs. dynamic)
3. General Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics principles
4. Program Design/Basics of writing a program
5. Teaching technique
6. Interpersonal Communication
7. Customer Service
After the interview is complete, the applicant will meet with the Graduate Assistant to discuss the interview. At this point, a decision will be made about the applicant's status. If hired, the applicant will go through an extended training phase of the hiring process, until he or she is prepared to train PT clients.
