These awards showcase the most cutting-edge designs in recreation, sport and fitness facilities all over America. The award highlighted the addition of 40,755 square feet and 12,546 square feet of renovated space to the Southwest Recreation Center. The building showcases transparent views into the new cardio space, providing views for participants looking out to campus while exercising. The recreation center also features renovated space to accommodate expanding program areas including a personal training studio, massage therapy rooms, an athletic training room and a new activity room. Colorful images on wall graphics were incorporated into the cardio, fitness and activity rooms, adding a sense of motion and energy. Recreation Management also stated that the facility is the subject of many sustainable design initiatives. The project was completed in August 2010.
