Lake Wauburg

Lake Wauburg North and South are outdoor recreation park facilities owned and operated by the University of Florida. The lake sides offer quiet places to relax, have fun with your friends and meet new ones. Students, faculty and staff have free admission to both parks with a valid Gator 1 Card.

The North Park is located eight miles from campus on Highway 441 near Paynes Prairie. Wauburg North is beautifully landscaped with 25 acres of shaded, grassy picnic areas, complete with picnic tables and grills on a hillside setting overlooking the lake and swimming area. Canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and rowboats are available and can be checked out for free with your Gator 1 Card. Beach volleyball and fishing from the dock are also popular activities.

Lake Wauburg South Shore is located one mile past the North Park on US 441 and offers 65 acres in a natural Florida setting. Wildlife is common. Eagles, ospreys, deer, turkeys and alligators may be seen on quiet weekday afternoons. Mountain bike and nature trails surround the park. If you are interested in sports, the South Shore offers an 18-hole championship disc golf course, water skiing, a soccer field and sand volleyball courts. A 16-station 55 ft. climbing wall and six-sided bouldering facility are also available for open recreation. For group team-building activities, Lake Wauburg South Shore features an Alpine Tower and a Low Initiatives Course.

The water skiing and sailing clubs also call Lake Wauburg their home. Large University groups of 50 or more may reserve the indoor Cypress Lodge and open pavilions for picnics, parties or meetings.
