Rules of the Event
(revised 2/28/08)
Each participant must present a valid Gator 1 Card in order to participate. No Exceptions.
Hitting Contest
- Each participant will be allowed to participate in the event twice and the highest score will be the official score for that participant.
- Each participant will receive seven swings over a series of ten legal pitches in order to accumulate as many points as possible.
- The participant will be extended the courtesy of one illegal pitch not counting against the max of ten legal pitches. The result of a hit ball will be no score and no swing
- Any illegal pitch hit will count as a pitch, but not a swing, or as the one "gimme" referenced above.
- A pitcher will be provided by an intramural staff member, but it is highly recommended each participant bring their own pitcher.
- Points will be awarded as follows depending on what side of the plate the partipant bats from and where the batted ball first contacts the ground:

- Bonus Points will be given as follows:
- MEN
- Hit to all Green Areas Beyond the 200' Line --> 4 pts
- Hit to all Red Areas (Homeruns) --> 6 pts
- Hit to all Green (beyond the 200' Line) and Red Areas --> 8 pts
- Hit all Homeruns --> 10 pts
- WOMEN
- Hit to all Green Areas Beyond the infield --> 4 pts
- Hit to all Green Areas Beyond the 200' Line --> 6 pts
- Hit to all Green Areas --> 8 pts
- Hit all balls to the Green Area Beyond the 200' Line --> 10pts
- The participant with the highest score wins the event
- All decisions on points awarded by the scoring official are final.
- Base Running
- Each participant will be allowed to participate in the event twice and the best time will be the official score for that participant.
- The runner must run the bases in the proper order starting and ending at home plate.
- The timer will start the stopwatch on the participant's first movement.
- One restart will be allowed if the participant does not take make it more than
- halfwaydown the first base line.
The participant with the best time wins the event.
All decisions on points awarded by the scoring official are final.
Overall Offensive Skills Champion
For each event points will be given to those participants competing in both events:
1st - 100 pts
2nd - 90 pts
3rd - 85 pts
4th - 83 pts
5th - 80 pts
6th - 79 pts
7th - 78 pts
etc.
The hitting event will count for 2/3 of the overall score and running event 1/3.
In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken by the participant finishing higher in
the running event.
