Recreation and Fitness Center Policies
The recreation and fitness centers are the centerpiece of campus recreation at the
The recreation and fitness centers' policies were developed by the Recreational Sports Board of Directors and approved by the Vice President for Student Affairs. The Associate Director for Facility Operations has been granted the authority to make decisions concerning the interpretation of the policies and procedures.
Authorized Users of the Facility
Participants must present a valid Gator 1 Card for admittance into the recreation and fitness centers. False identification will be confiscated and turned over to University ID Card Services. Individuals who present false identification, or whose ID is presented by another individual may be suspended from the recreation and fitness centers as determined by the Associate Director for Facility Operations.
UF Students
Summer Continuing Students
1. To purchase this membership students must bring a print out of their spring schedule from the ISIS website. If they have graduated an official letter of acceptance to a graduate program for the upcoming semester will be required.
2. Summer Continuing Students are allowed to participate in Intramural Sports.
UF Student Spouses/Partners
Previously enrolled students, by paying the appropriate fees, are eligible to join the recreation and fitness centers for no more than one semester after their most recent semester of enrollment.
Faculty, Staff and Affiliates and their Spouses/Partners
Faculty, Staff and Affiliates and their spouses/partners are eligible to join the recreation and fitness centers by paying the appropriate fees.
Refund Policies
1. All membership fees will be refunded if so requested by 4:00 PM of the third business day after the membership agreement was submitted.
2. A $10.00 processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
3. When refunds are issued, they will be paid on a prorated basis; and, be paid only for the remainder of the term of the membership period.
4. A member who receives a refund must pay membership fees according to the fee schedule if he/she wishes to rejoin.
Guest Policies
1. All guests must be sponsored by an eligible user of the recreation and fitness centers.
2. Guests must check-in at the desk in the lobby and present a state or federal picture ID.
3. Students and members are limited to two guests per day.
4. Each guest is limited to using each building once per semester.
5. Guests must be at least 18 years old.
6. Sponsors are responsible for the conduct and actions of their guests, and must accompany them at all times.
7. Guests may not check out equipment. Sponsors must check out, and be responsible for equipment used by their guests.

9. Guests may only play racquet sports if they are playing with their sponsor.
10. Guests may not reserve racquet courts.
11. The management of the recreation and fitness centers reserves the right to refuse admittance to any guest.
12. Individuals seeking admittance to the recreation and fitness centers may not solicit members to sponsor them as a guest.
Spectator Policies
1. Spectators will only be admitted for Department of Recreational Sports events.
2. Spectators must check in at the lobby desk and be accompanied by a UF student or other authorized user of the facility.
3. Spectators are not allowed in the activity areas or the locker rooms.
4. Spectators must leave the building immediately following the event.
Group Reservation Policies
Groups may submit a request to the Recreational Sports Board of Directors via the Associate Director for Facility Operations (Room 140, SWRC) to reserve space in the SWRC or the SRFC. The Board will approve or disapprove the request and forward it to the Vice President for Student Affairs for approval or disapproval of the Board's decision. If approved, the Associate Director for Facility Operations will develop a contract indicating the costs to use the facility and other terms of the agreement.
General Policies of the Recreation and
1. Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the recreation and fitness centers or on their grounds. No tobacco chewing or dipping allowed in the recreation and fitness centers.
2. No food or drinks are allowed in the recreation and fitness centers. Exception: Food and drinks may be brought into the office areas in an enclosed container. Water bottles will also be allowed.
3. Personal radios are not allowed in the recreation and fitness centers unless used with head phones.
4. Non-marking athletic shoes must be worn in the activity areas. Waffle-soled shoes or cleats are not allowed. Sandals, bare feet (martial arts clubs, dance and some group exercise classes are exempt), and stocking feet are not allowed.
5. Shirts must be worn at all times in all areas except the gymnasium floors.
6. Mopeds, bicycles, skateboards, roller-skates, rollerblades and scooters are not allowed to be operated in the fitness centers under any circumstances.
7. Chewing gum is not allowed in the activity areas.
8. No pets allowed. Exception: Service animals are allowed.
9. Photographic devices may not be used in the locker rooms and restrooms.
10. Disorderly conduct, abuse or misuse of the facility or its equipment, or disregard for the recreation and fitness centers' policies will not be tolerated.
11. Violators will be required to leave the facility and may be subject to disciplinary action and/or payment for damages.
12. Violators of the above policy may also be suspended from using the facilities as determined by the Associate Director for Facility Operations.
13. Fee paying members who are suspended will not have any portion of their fees refunded.
Gymnasium Area Policies
1. Hanging on the basketball rims or nets is not allowed. Dunking is not permitted in the Student Recreation and
2. Playing or shooting basketball is not allowed when any part of the volleyball or badminton systems are set up.
3. The volleyball net must be set up and taken down by the staff only.
1. You are required to wipe down sweaty equipment after use with gym wipes or your own personal towel. Personal towels are highly recommended.
2. Athletic gym clothes are highly recommended.
3. Shoes and a shirt must be worn at all times.
4. Sandals, flip-flops, open-toed shoes of any kind, or dress shoes are not allowed.
5. Gum is not allowed.
6. Lifting chalk is not allowed.
7. Olympic lifting (explosive movements such as snatch and clean, clean and jerk) is not allowed.
8. Each participant is only allowed to have one set of dumbbells off the rack at a time.
9. Personal items such as backpacks are not allowed on the floor. Participants are encouraged to use the lockers. Staff members are not responsible for lost or stolen property.
10. Collars must be used on all free bar lifts with plates.
11. 30-minute limit on all cardiovascular equipment when someone is waiting.
12. Selected cardiovascular machines may be reserved according to the following policies:
12.1. Reservations are taken for the current day only.
12.2. Reservations must be made in person.
12.3. One reservation for 30 minutes is allowed per day.
12.4. You must be present at the appointed time or the machine becomes first come, first served. No grace period.
12.5. You must exit the machine at the end of your reserved time.
Activity Room Policies
1. Personal bags and equipment are not allowed. Lockers should be used. Exceptions during assigned times for Sport Clubs and UF classes.
2. Mats may only be used for appropriate activities.
Group Fitness Room Policies
1. Numbers are handed out to reserve a spot on a first come, first served basis 30 minutes prior to each class. Entry to any class is not allowed after the warm-up is complete.
2. Personal items must be stored in the cubicles in the group fitness rooms in the SRFC. Participants are encouraged to use the lockers in the lobby. Personal items may not be taken onto the floor of the SRFC and may not be brought in to the room in the SWRC.
3. Equipment provided in a group fitness class (hand weights, tubing, rubber bands, etc.) may not be taken out of the room in which the class is being held.
4. Personal hand weights are not allowed. Hand weights will be provided for appropriate classes. Hand weights may only be used at the direction of the leader.
Equipment Checkout Policies
1. Only UF students, faculty, staff and members of the recreation and fitness centers may checkout equipment.
2. To check out equipment you must present your Gator 1 Card.
3. All equipment must be returned by closing time at the SRFC and within 48 hours at the SWRC or designated time period. A $1.00 per day late fee will be assessed.
4. If the equipment is not returned within two weeks of being checked out: the equipment will be considered lost and the individual must pay the replacement cost.
5. An individual that has not returned equipment or paid the applicable fee cannot check out equipment or use the facilities. A non-student will have his/her membership suspended (without a refund) until financial restitution is made.
6. Users will be charged replacement cost for damaged equipment.
7. Equipment is checked out on a first come, first served basis and may not be reserved.
Locker Room Policies
1. The lockers in the locker rooms are available for daily use only.
2. Locks are available for check out from the equipment room.
3. Items left in a locker overnight will be removed and held for no more than one week.
Daily Locker Policies
1. The daily lockers are operated with a quarter. Quarters are returned to the user when the key is returned to the locker.
2. Items left in a locker overnight will be confiscated. Items will be held for no more than one week.
Racquet Court Policies
General Policies
1. Only non-marking balls are allowed.
2. Racquetball and paddleball racquets must have a wrist strap which is to be used at all times.
3. Only racquetball, handball, paddleball and wallyball are allowed on the racquetball courts.
4. Squash is the only activity allowed on the squash courts. No racquetball allowed.
5. No more than eight people can be on a court playing wallyball.
Protective Eyewear Policies
1. Lensed eyewear designed for racquet sports is required for all racquetball, squash, paddleball and handball players. The protective eyewear must be worn as designed and may not be altered. Players who require corrective eyewear also must wear lensed eyewear designed for racquet sports. Protective eyewear can be checked out in either building.
2. If a player is not wearing the protective eyewear properly, all players on that court will immediately lose their racquet sport privileges for that day.
Reservation Policies
1. Racquet courts are scheduled on the hour and are taken in person at the lobby desk or by calling during operation hours.
2. Courts can be reserved no earlier than the previous day.
3. Reservations will be taken alternately between those who walk-in and call-in, if there is a line.
4. An individual must indicate his/her first and last name, phone number and partner's name when reserving a court.
5. An individual can reserve one court for one hour per day. The partner of someone who has made a reservation cannot reserve a court for that day.
Check-In Policies
1. Users are allowed to check in with their partner up to five minutes after the hour. If they or their partner do not check in, the next team from the waiting list will be given the court. One person cannot hold a court. One person can play on a court only if no one on the waiting list desires to play.
2. Individuals who reserve a court can cancel the reservation up to two hours prior to the reserved time without penalty.
3. Individuals who do not check-in, or do not cancel within the time period indicated above will be restricted from reserving courts for one month.
