Specializations/Philosophy
on exercise:
I believe in a balanced training program with the most important
aspect being achieving and maintaining correct range of motion for individual
joints and muscle groups. As an athlete my past has been plagued with injuries
that could have been prevented with a proper flexibility program. Now that I
stretch almost everyday, paying close attention to potential injury sites, I feel
stronger and faster while playing beach volleyball, which is my all time
favorite sport. Stretching has also helped give me a more comfortable life in
general. As a part of posture correction, proper stretching technique is one of
the first aspects of training I go over with clients. You can't build a "brick
house" on a broken foundation! I also specialize in speed/agility training,
making extensive use of Plyometrics, which I engage in myself during the
in-season training phase for Beach volleyball. I also specialize in weight loss
with a program that leans more towards strength training than cardio, using new
muscle growth to burn calories. Weight loss and toning are a package dealÃ?¢?Ã?¦Who
wants to shed all those pounds and then not look fit afterwards?
Personal Interests/
Hobbies:
I started playing sports at a young age, working my way through
baseball, soccer, and basketball, until I settled on inline hockey. I played
inline hockey for eight years, becoming the captain/coach for my team in tenth
grade, a position I held until I moved on to college. Once at UF, I dropped
hockey in favor of Indoor volleyball, which I also played from tenth to twelfth
grade, because I didnÃ?¢??t think I could juggle two sports like I did in high
school. I joined the UF club volleyball team and played middle hitter for two
years. But, the position soon caused multiple overuse injuries so I moved on to
beach volleyball, which allowed for better arm swing dynamics and a softer
landing. I am currently training to "go pro" in Beach volleyball and I am
getting excitingly close! I still feel nostalgic whenever I see hockey on TV
though. I don't know how I ever chose between the two sports.
Favorite Quote: Interviewer: "Is there
something about you sport fans might be surprised to know?"
"How much we have to hydrate out here in this kind of heat and humidity. I
think the most I have ever taken down in one day of fluids is five gallons -- a
gallon per match. If we didn't replace our fluids, we would probably keel over
and die." --Karch Kiraly (Beach Volleyball Legend)
