Lifeguard - Florida Pool & O'Connell Center Pool
(Additional Lifeguard positions available at Lake Wauburg)

• Rate of Pay: $7.25/hr
• Duties:
· Recognize and respond to emergencies

· Administer CPR/AED and First Aid in an emergency

· Prevent injuries by eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors

· Enforce rules, regulations and policies

· Complete Daily Logs and scan Gator 1 Cards

· Perform maintenance as needed and monitor water chemistry

· Inspect facilities for unsafe conditions, remedy the condition and/or notify supervisors

· Participate in departmental fall training and all in-service trainings

· Maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification

• Requirements:
· University of Florida student

· Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid

· Current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

· Successfully complete the pre-employment water test

· Contribute 15-18 hrs/ week; additional special event hours required

• Pre-Employment Test:
· Swim 500 yards nonstop - 200 free style, 100 breaststroke, 200 choice of free  style/breaststroke with rhythmic breathing/arm pull and stabilizing propellant kick

· Swim 20 yards; surface dive; pick up 10lb brick 7-
10' down; return to surface; swim back to start; exit pool in 1 min. 40 sec.

· Perform active and passive rescue

· Perform lift from deep water and simulate CPR

· Perform spinal turns and boarding

· Answer 20 questions from the ARC Lifeguard Training test

· Oral interview
• Additional Certifications for Merit Advancement:
· American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor

· American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor

· First Responder Certification

· EMT Certification
• Hiring Time Frame:
· Applications are accepted year round

· Hiring occurs during the last half of each semester


NOTE: Please scan certification cards and attach to e-mail in addition to the student employment application when applying.  If you do not have access to a scanner, you may photocopy the certification card and deliver to Aquatics Office located on the second floor of the Student Recreation & Fitness Center.
